House music charts from the DJ booth
A monthly DJ chart for house music
Jack Your Body shows the new house music DJs actually play. Every month we go through the tracklists of hundreds of radio shows and the charts DJs publish themselves, and count which records turn up again and again. A track only makes the chart when at least two DJs play or chart it.
Store bestseller lists and paid promotion play no part. The only sales signal is Bandcamp, where small labels and artists sell directly, and it can only nudge a record that DJs already back. What counts is what ends up in a DJ's bag and then on the decks.
Track IDs from the record bag
Heard a track on the radio or in a DJ mix and still need the ID? Every entry lists artist and title and the shows that played it, so you can name it, preview it and buy it. Each month adds new track IDs to the archive, from deep cuts to the records everybody is suddenly playing.
Deep house, classic house, disco
House is house. Deep house, Chicago house, soulful, jackin and leftfield house share the list with disco, boogie and edits. The chart is for new releases from the last twelve months. Classics that are still in heavy rotation get their own corner.
New house music on vinyl and download
Every track links to the stores that sell it, as a vinyl record or as a download, from Bandcamp and Juno to Traxsource and Beatport. Many of these records come out in small runs, so buying straight from the label or the artist often makes the most sense.
Underground house music, picked by DJs
This is not a sales chart. The records here come from small labels, white labels and self released 12 inches, played by DJs from clubs like Panorama Bar, Robert Johnson, Nowadays and fabric and from radio stations like NTS. Underground house, Chicago jack tracks, New York garage, Detroit deep house and dusty disco edits sit next to each other, as long as the people behind the decks keep playing them.
How the chart works
Every record collects points from two sides that weigh the same, up to 50 each. On the radio side every show that plays it gives ten points, five more if the DJ regularly plays the clubs we follow. On the chart side every DJ chart on Traxsource, Beatport or Juno is one vote, and a place in the top ten counts double. A high place in Bandcamp's house and disco bestsellers adds up to ten points. Own records, own labels and label compilations don't count. Release years are checked against Discogs, so reissues and classics land in Still in the bag instead of the Top 20.
